360 Degrees of Good is a quick fix for inspiring you to achieve your goals. It is an imaginative series of affirmations, short stories and aphorisms that take you through the year in a sphere of good so that everywhere you turn your life will become what it has always been, good.
The republican candidates would have us believe that there are two sides to every story, that what they are running for and against is simply their own opinion of the way things should be run in this country. Their position presupposes that they are of course right and that the Democrats are wrong. What they think they are in fact debating is right and wrong, however, this is as far from the truth as is possible.
The sense of right belongs to the people first and foremost because it is the rights of a democratic people that are being debated here. These rights were spelled out. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Let’s example each of these rights and see what the republican view of these are.
First Life. Okay republicans believe in pro life but really cannot define it except in biblical terms. They also negate their view in life by believing in the death penalty, war, torture and a host of other life negating propositions, the drill, drill, drill thing which harms life, the unbelief in Global Warming, etc. Not only are they not consistent with their views they really cannot argue them except by pointing to something ephemeral like the when does the soul come into being. The fact is that a person’s life is sacrosanct and in these terms a women’s right to choose is also of that same level of sanctity in terms of personal freedom. Therefore in this case republicans seek to control life from conception all the way through how they will determine our deaths. Get the point. They don’t care about life per se but only in terms of how they can manipulate that life in order to suit there own ends. What are their ends? Adding to their own personal wealth. That is the only reason abortion has been taken up with such vehemence but the republicans so that they can act as though they are holier than thou all the while milking this issue for all its worth. Their side of the story turns out to have only one ending which is the tyranny of spirit in that they are manipulating or trying to manipulate their electorate so that they get their votes which then allows then to go on robbing us blind the way they’ve been doing for the past eight years.
Liberty. Republicans want to chip away at our personal freedoms with things like the Patriot Act, the Telecom spying scandals, the general 1984 atmosphere which the Bush administration has promoted and been supported by his republican cohort. Republicans say they want to keep us safe but all the while we are still at war losing life after young life to a war that only exists to gain political capital and prop up the oil companies special interests. In the end they seek to take our liberty by confusing us with slogans ala countless other tyrants just to promote their own ends. They taken away oversight from the stock markets, and banks saying they should be free to do what they want but when this happens they are also free to rob their own cookies jars and leave us, that’s you and me holding the bag. They promise freedom but the only freedom we have at this point is to not vote for them. They don’t want us to know what they are doing so they use misdirection and fear to ward us off. Therefore once again their side of the story really is solely to promote their nefarious money making schemes taking care of their own by putting the price tag on us. Sounds a lot like France before their revolution.
Happiness: The Republicans will see to it that we are not happy. They will keep their thumbs pressed upon our feet miring us in problems, debt and solutions that only make us more dependent upon other nations.If we want to break free of this we have to be vigilant in making sure we do not take on their values, their promises or their candidates for office.
The only side to this story is that the republicans are against America. No they never put country first which is why that is McCain’s slogan. Why? Because the one way to make sure no one takes you seriously is to confuse them with language that says just the opposite of what you are doing. It is time for someone to say that McCain has used up his POW capital long ago, even that like so much in this country today is living on borrowed, mortgaged time. It is time for the Democrats to call in that POW note along with all the other debts the republicans are leaving us with. That is the only side of this story which is that until we do what is right for America the republican party will continue to try and sell us all down the river.
Amidst the constant attack on rationality being launched and promoted by the right wing republican campaign we must hold fast to the those truths we hold self evident. There is the truth that a child deserves an excellent education, the truth that our money that goes to government via taxation must be as safely close guarded as the gold in Fort Knox meaning nothing is spent without extensive oversight. It is too easy these days perhaps always to steal from the treasury through corruption and outright theft. Just because ‘everyone’ does this does not give any of our elected officials the right to appropriate money for pet projects that have the lobbyists breathing down their throats.
We need to put a stop to this wanton rape of our funds and come up with the idea that people who do so willfully belong behind bars. Even the suspicion of such a thing should be abhorrent to any politician. What can we do? We can focus on our truth, the truth of the American people, the truth that unites us and does not divide us. It is the truth that doesn’t try and eviscerate a political opponent but attempts to always reach a common ground, that common ground being that we are a nation united in a common cause of helping each other along the way.
More and more the spotlight must be placed upon the wealthy whose only purpose is the aggrandizement of their personal fortune. When they put themselves before country then it is country, that is you and me who have to say like Barack Obama, enough is enough. We cannot say this enough, pun intended. We are in a war of words and meanings where the very substance of our democracy is at stake because if they meaning the republican right wing neocons get to redefine what a democracy is then we are all going to suffer the consequences of living in a facist state that simply falls itself a democracy. All of us need to stand up and no not fight but keep our focus on the truth. This is how we win. We focus on the truth. Martin Luther King had a dream that was the truth and it is time to realize this dream. It isn’t only the truth of having race be put aside as an issue it is the truth of having the elements of double speak, the Shikasta of political form defeated once and for all. This goes not just for this election but continuing throughout each moment that they would seek to redefine and steal our very freedoms from us. This cannot be because even if one person remains true to that truth it can never be taken away.
Listen to that voice within that says America will prevail over these forces of tyranny of the mind, of language and of the very truth itself. Elect Obama as president not because he holds a magic wand and can do away with this nonsense once and for all but for ourselves in order to send a message of power to those who would usurp that power for their own ends. The power is ours and yes power to the people is the cornerstone of our democracy. Keep fighting within to cancel and make as null those thoughts of discord and dishonesty which the republican campaign would have you dance to.
In this election this year we are bombarded by a semblance of truth but rarely do we get the actual thing itself. What is this truth that we seek? It is similar to what they used to say in Dragnet, ‘just the facts ma’am,’ but it is also more than this.
There is the truth a a health care system that promotes profit ahead of wellness and care.
There is the truth of an economy that rewards those at the top with more, undercuts the poor and then make the middle class pay for all the rest.
There is the truth of a war fought for all the wrong reasons still being waged through a stubborn insistence that our national security is at stake.
You will not find McCain speaking of these truths. He and his crowd will speak about what the other candidate is doing how incompetent they are or how wrong they are or simply that they represent what is right without of course going into any details.
The truth is that McCain-Palin are diametrically opposed to any truth in their campaign because it is the nature of truth that once you accept it there can be no more lies. How is it then that so many people buy into these lies as an altered reality so to speak? Well the reason for this has to do with how people view themselves and their lives. If you do not own up to your own misgivings or lies about yourself then it is easy to buy into another campaign of lies. Therefore what happens is that there is a sympathetic unconscious response to the campaign of lies. Once lies are covered up it help all lies to become vague and in a sense helps cover up your own campaign of lies. Anyway this is why I think people go in to support McCain and Palin because they are not ready to face the truth.
